What is Catechesis?
Catechesis is an old church word for oral teaching about "the faith that was once for all delivered to God's holy people" (Jude 1.3). Anciently, it was for those being drawn to Christ and desiring to know the truth of life in him, and it was given as preparation for baptism. While it continues to serve that purpose, in our church we more often use catechesis to refer to instruction about the Anglican way of following Jesus Christ as it has come to us through the Reformation tradition. We aim to answer questions such as, "What is the Anglican Church and how do we understand the gospel?" "How do we read the Bible?" "Why do we worship God in these particular ways?" Many other questions are answered along the way, but overall a person attending Catechesis should come away with a clear understanding of how this church seeks to know God and make him known.
